Therapy for Post-Bariatric Surgery Patients
Bariatric therapist serving Grand Blanc, Flint, and surrounding areas
The days, months, and years following bariatric surgery can be much harder than you planned on.
You were told about the risk of regaining the weight, developing new addictions, or struggling with mental health after the surgery, but always figured “it won’t happen to me.” Now you’re beginning to realize it’s not quite that simple.
As a bariatric surgery patient myself, I know that the way we process things — both physically and emotionally — is different after surgery. If you are feeling shame from seeing the scale go back up, struggling with a new or recurring addiction, or carrying the weight of other emotional baggage, you are not a failure. You are not broken. And you are not alone.
I have the training and expertise to understand the nuances of bariatric surgery and to help you develop the tools you are looking for to finally feel better. For good.

Personalized, ongoing support for your post-bariatric surgery journey.
Frequently Asked Questions
+ What are sessions like?
During our first session, I will complete an initial assessment that helps us understand your support system, strengths, and weaknesses. We will start off meeting weekly for 53+ minute sessions. From there, we’ll develop a custom treatment plan: a week-by-week set of goals, resources, and milestones to help you start living the life you want. We’ll use this plan to direct our sessions together to ensure we make the progress you’re looking for.
+ How long do I need to be in therapy?
As a bariatric therapist, my goal is for you to eventually feel totally empowered on your own — not reliant on me! I aim for you to begin seeing progress after your very first session. Usually, I work with clients on a weekly basis for 3-4 months. From there, we often move to biweekly or monthly sessions for another 3-4 months. Eventually, we’ll move to just having “check-ins” whenever needed.
+ I’ve never been to therapy before. How do I know if it will work for me?
It’s normal to have thought about therapy for a long time but never taken the “leap.” But if you’ve found yourself here, it’s because you know you could use some support, right? It’s not necessary to have had a massive life event or trauma to benefit from therapy; in fact, many of my clients who have benefited the most have been those who just knew there had to be “something more” in life, but didn’t know how to get there.
If you’re still not sure, that’s okay. Schedule a free consultation with me, and if therapy isn’t the best route for you, I can give you some resources or suggestions to look into instead.
